In 2025, as Abel Co., Ltd. marks its 60th year, we’ve renewed our official website and updated the Abel Black® logo.
Abel Black® is a patented coloring technology that forms a controlled oxide film on stainless steel using electrical and chemical processes. The film creates a deep black through optical interference—an approach unique in the world. To convey the essence of this technology more clearly, we refreshed the Abel Black® logo as part of the website renewal.
The new symbol places an abstract form of the character for “light” within a black square, reflecting how Abel Black® draws depth from the way light interacts with the oxide layer. It represents the core of the technology: capturing light to create a richer black.
For the logotype, we selected a typeface introduced in 1965—the year Abel was founded—to echo the company’s history and ongoing technical evolution. The design was created by Chi-Binh Trieu and Chi-Long Trieu of Office for Typography, based in Switzerland and Tokyo.
